** HOW TO INSTALL **
Many driver distros such as the Realtek High Definition Audio CoDec, already contain the hotfixes for various Windows versions, but none install for XP Sevice Pack 3.

As Micro$oft have not made a hotfix for XP-SP3, you normally have to make Windows believe it is still only SP2.
I give you 3 options 😀
With the first 2, it is important to disconnect from the internet, or switch off Windows automatic updates until you are finished.

1) The normal way.
run “regedit” from the “Run…” box on your start menu, and browse to the location;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
Edit the entry named “CSDVersion” from “300” to “200“, and close regedit.
Windows will now think it is running Sevice Pack 2.
Now you can install the hotfix “kb888111xpsp2.exe“, and then reset “CSDVersion” from “200” back to “300“, and close regedit again.

2) My alternative way.
Right-click on the supplied registry file “XP-SP2.reg” and select “Merge
Windows will now think it is running Sevice Pack 2.
Now you can install the hotfix “kb888111xpsp2.exe
Right-click on the supplied registry file “XP-SP3.reg” and select “Merge
Windows is now back to SP3.

3) Normal Driver install (The way they should have done it in the first place).
Just extract the folder “Driver” to somewhere easy to find.
Open the Device Manager (you will find this on the “Hardware” tab in the “System Properties” Control Panel applet).
Update the missing drivers, by pointing it at the folder you just extracted.

Now you have the base HDAudio drivers installed, you should be able to use the proper driver update for your sound chip.
